Be careful of those websites!!! Do some reading and research first. Know the fees!! Most of the card solicitors on those sites hope to gouge you for as much money as possible. They'll quickly approve you for $300.00, rarely more, but then dump between $100-$250 worth of fees on the initial statement for your credit privileges. They list a low annual fee or no fee on these websites. But just wait till you read the fine print. Surprise!! Forget it. Household bank and Orchard bank are not doing you favors. They're doing big business. Besides, $300 won't really help your "debt to available credit"ratio. And, that's if they approve you at all. Finally, it will be many YEARS before they ever raise that credit limit even with flawless payment history. Trust me - benthere.
Secured cards are much better. Try your local, smaller credit unions or banks like Mechanics Bank in the San Francisco area. www.mechbank.com They have secured credit cards, low fees and exceptional customer service reps who; 1) all speak fluent English, 2) answer the phone with minimal or NO wait time on hold, 3) don't try to sell you a bunch of "extra protection or services" crap with every phone call, and 4) answer your questions with satisfactory, solid answers.
Secured cards are your ticket to higher credit limits. They improve your debt to available credit ratio, thus boosting your FICO. Deposit a few thousand and boost that FICO
Although Orchard does the processing, if you belong to a labor union, try the secured card available from http://www.unionplus.org/benefits/money/card_secured.cfm They'll approve your secured card even if you're just out the gate from a BK. Again, very low fees, fluent English, no wait time and GREAT service are their trademark. They answer your questions with rock solid answers.
Good luck.
