Credit repair and a chapter 7 bankruptcy and a chapter 13

About 2 months ago, I recieved all three credit reports from the big 3 CRAs. My average FICO score was a 528. Since I had a chapter 7 and a 13 on there, I figured I had nothing to lose to dispute those and other collections. Well, I am happy to say that as of Feb 26, 2007 my scores are as follows, Trans Union 648, Experian 637, and Equifax 623. Not to shabby for someone with 2 bankruptcies. I deleted the chapter 7 and 13, plus 18 negative accounts including and or charge offs, collections, and late pays. It took me a total of 67 days to increase my score by an average of 100 points or more and because of this, I am going to refinance our home from a 8.80% interest rate down to mid 6% interest rate or lower by the time I apply in May 2007. This can be done and I am proud that I have done so and could prove it. I will be keeping track of my credit reports daily as I have signed up for the daily monitoring service and credit reports, it is worth the $9.95 a month that I pay and would advise others to do so. If you would like more info on how I did this, please let me know. Oh, by the way, I am not in the credit repair business. I am a 47 year old male with eight children and a wife. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope this helps everyone out there in a similar situation. Neal Y

Hi Neal Y, cudos on the clean-up.  I am currently doing the same thing and was wondering how you managed to delete the bankruptcies.  Any help would be appreciated.  Mine was a ch 13 filed on 09/04 and I dismissed it myself on 10/06 because the lawyers were making money arguing over issues and payments had come to a halt while they bantered back and forth.  I'm 4 mos on my own now and have already paid all the accounts off that were in the bankruptcy.  I have been rejected from buying a vehicle because of this bankruptcy - I had no idea it would burden me so badly or for so long.

How were you able to dispute all your collections?? My friend told me to do the same thing but I figured there would be no way they'd get taken off my report since their recent. I'm trying to buy a car but my FICO score is 528. No bank will touch me. :(

Well removing the chapter 7 is not difficult. If your Chapter 7 bankruptcy has aged at least 27 months since the date of discharge, your in a great position to make it disappear forever, simply file disputes with the credit bureaus indicating that your bankruptcy was a Chapter 13 and not a Chapter 7.

Thanks for the info., and pardon my ignorance here, but not too sure how to do this. I have visited the main site for equifax (for example), and assume I will have to sign up for the monthly monitoring. At that point, file disputes regarding my chapter 7 issues ?

My chapter 7 was discharged in November of 2004. I am well into my re-building time frame, but just want to get as much of that negative data off my reports as possible. One other issue is the fact that there are 3 wrong, in fact totally unknown addresses shown on my report. How do I change this, or is it that important to do that ?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I am working so hard to clean up my situation, and would like to wipe it "away" if at all possible.

Re: Credit repair and a chapter 7 bankruptcy and a chapter 13

    Neal,

I am 55 with 8 children. Our family lost our home in Biloxi and everything we owned in Hurricane Katrina.  I filed a Chapter 13 and was dismissed 8/06. We have slowly recoved from our loses, but my credit is one area that is preventing us from fully recovering from the storm. I am trying to buy a home for my family and with my poor credit the only loan I can qualify for is a subprime with a rate of 10.62. I have had great success removing negitive info and haved moved my score from 480 to 601, 588, and 608. I am very close to getting to the magic mid score 625. Any ideas to improve my score in the next few days to get me to a score up to qualify for a better rate. This would save a $1000's a month in my new mortage payment.

    Thanks,

    Bob

How will having a ch 13 v. a  ch 7  help you if you go thru that dispute process?

Neal... I don't have a bankruptcy but tons of old stuff that keeps coming back as ZOmbie debts. My score dropped 75 points in the last 3 months. How can I raise this back up again to get my score moving in the direction yours did? Jim H
